We’re a small, independent funeral directors, which means we’re able to provide families with a tailored service suitable for their loved one. Our service is professional and personal, providing a range of funeral services from the traditional to the more contemporary.
We take a modern approach, incorporating both financial and environmental considerations. Toby, our Principal Funeral Director, arranges and conducts all funerals to make sure you have continuity throughout our service.

Toby
Principal Funeral Director
Toby is the business owner of Merritt’s of Midhurst Funeral Service. He arranges and conducts all of our funeral services to ensure you get a high level of continuity throughout our service. He’s worked within the funeral industry for many years, giving him a wealth of knowledge covering all aspects of the industry.
Toby has lived in Midhurst his whole life and being a part of this community is important to him. He can often be found walking the South Downs with his dogs, Lottie and Bailey, ringing the bells at our local churches or riding a fire engine and helping the community on behalf of Midhurst Fire Station.
Jessica
Funeral Director’s Assistant
Jessica is Toby’s fiancée. Toby and Jessica founded Merritt’s of Midhurst together after the loss of two close family members and she is now involved with all aspects of the business. She particularly likes assisting Toby with the funeral day and seeing the elements that everyone has worked so hard on coming together.
You will often see Jessica out and about within the local area, walking and enjoying the Midhurst countryside.
Duncan
Funeral Service Operative
Duncan assists Toby with out of hours transfers and helps with the day-to-day running of the business.
Duncan has lived in Midhurst for many years and his knowledge and expertise of the local area is key to our service. He was a retained fire fighter for Midhurst Fire Station for 13 years and can often be found at the gym, walking the Midhurst countryside or at an auction house with his wife, Celia.
Mark
Funeral Service Operative
As another key member of our team, Mark assists with out of hours transfers and the general running of the business. He has been deeply involved in the Midhurst community for many years, particularly during his time as Chairman of Midhurst Town Council. Mark is also in the fire service and brings a wealth of knowledge to our business.
